Abercrombie Jeans Review

I am no stranger to a great pair of jeans! Once I find a brand that offers jeans that feel like that were made for me, I stick with that brand until the end of time (or until my body changes, ha!). Over the years, I’ve purchased and loved jeans by Madewell, Everlane, and now Abercrombie & Fitch.

Jeans are the ultimate wardrobe staple. They can be worn year-round, and many offices allow them to be worn to work (including mine), making them even more of a wardrobe staple. Plus, if you take good care of your jeans, they’ll last you for years!

A few years ago, Abercrombie had a bit of a rebrand, and their denim was at the top of my must-try list. I’ve now owned a couple of pairs of their jeans for 1-2 years and decided to order a few more styles to branch out from my favorites and help you if you’re also interested in trying them! Read on for my honest (and unsponsored) review of Abercrombie jeans.

Abercrombie Jeans Review

Want to learn more about Abercrombie jeans and how they fit before you order some yourself? You’ve come to the right place! Below, I shared a quick background on the brand, in-depth reviews of the Abercrombie jeans I ordered and a note on my favorite styles, an Abercrombie size chart and sizing tips, where to buy Abercrombie jeans, and a list of other related blog posts you should check out for more denim reviews, outfits, and style tips.

What is Abercrombie and Fitch?

The original Abercrombie store opened as a sporting goods store back in 1892! (I’m not kidding! I had no idea it was that old.) It was renamed Abercrombie and Fitch in 1904 after a wealthy man (Fitch) purchased a stake in the company, and they offered outdoor clothing. The brand went through a couple of iterations in the 80-90 years before becoming the laid back, preppy, casual surfer brand we knew well in the late 1990s and 2000s.

If you’re a millennial like me, I know that you’re familiar with Abercrombie and Fitch. The chokehold that brand had on us…! I distinctly remember walking into that store in the mall when I was in junior high and high school, choking on the scent of the perfume they sprayed on everything, and wishing I could afford something. Pretty much every “cool” kid at my school wore Abercrombie polo shirts. I bought one (1) very thin long-sleeved pink tee and loved that thing to death!

Fast forward to now… Abercrombie is no longer the mall brand of our youths! They reinvented themselves in the past few years, and I’ve found myself shopping there again—with my own disposable income. Ha! I started with their denim offerings, which are—spoiler alert—just as great as everyone says they are.

What are the Best Abercrombie Jeans?

I’ll be honest: I have not tried EVERY single pair of jeans that Abercrombie offers. They offer a ton of options in various rises, inseams, styles, washes, and in both regular “straight” sizes and their curvy sizes, which they refer to as Curve Love. I find their best jeans to be high-rise Curve Love styles.

Because I prefer high-rise jeans, I have not tried any of the low-rise or mid-rise styles (you may prefer the lower rises if you are petite and/or have a short torso). I also wear Abercrombie’s Curve Love styles, which are constructed specifically for women that have a larger waist-to-hip ratio. I get the dreaded waist gap in the back with almost all regular, non-curvy high-rise styles. You may not need a curvy fit if you opt for a lower rise.

Below, I reviewed the five Abercrombie jean styles in six washes that I recently ordered during a sale:

  • Curve Love Ultra High Rise Ankle Straight Jean (light and dark)

  • Curve Love High Rise 90s Relaxed Jean

  • Curve Love Ultra High Rise 90s Straight Jean

  • Curve Love High Rise Vintage Straight Jean

  • Curve Love High Rise Cropped Wide Leg Jean

Abercrombie Curve Love Ultra High Rise Ankle Straight Jean

The two pairs of Abercrombie jeans I already own are this particular style, the Curve Love Ultra High Rise Ankle Straight Jean, but in different colors (dark and black). I also own a pair of light wash jeans that don’t fit me currently, so I wanted to try these in the light wash. I LOVE the wash. It’s fantastic for spring and summer!

Because these are called the ankle straight jean, they’re designed to hit at (or just above) your ankle bones, which is why I took the regular inseam. In most of the other denim styles, I needed short or even extra short for the same inseam length.

The two pairs I already own in this style are size 28, but they’re too big now. After trying on my 28s, I felt like I could go down to a 26, but these felt a touch too snug in my waist. Sadly, they were out of stock in 27, so I returned these… but I’m still considering them if there’s another sale in the future.

This particular denim style is an excellent option if you’re just starting to branch out from skinny jeans. They feel similar to skinny jeans without the overwhelm of a wider leg, so you can easily swap them into your favorite skinny jean outfits. I wrote more about this particular style in my review of the dark wash below!

Abercrombie Curve Love High Rise 90s Relaxed Jean

I originally ordered the Curve Love High Rise 90s Relaxed Jean two years ago in the short inseam, and they were too long and felt too relaxed for me. Surprisingly, out of the six pairs of jeans I ordered, this was the only pair I did not exchange or return! I’ve already worn them a couple of times.

After striking out with the short inseam back in 2023, I decided to order the extra short inseam this time. These jeans are designed to fit loose and puddle around your feet, but I’m not a fan of that look. (A millennial horror story!) The extra short inseam hits me right at my ankles so there’s no puddling.

Since I figured out a good length for me, the relaxed fit through the leg doesn’t bother me anymore, and they really don’t feel too relaxed. I would say the fit is in between a straight leg and wide leg jean. I’m a huge fan of the wash and raw hem. I’m excited about these!

Abercrombie Curve Love Ultra High Rise 90s Straight Jean

The Curve Love Ultra High Rise 90s Straight Jean is very similar in fit and style to the Curve Love Ultra High Rise Ankle Straight Jean but with a looser fit through the leg. They’re also designed to puddle around your feet, as I took the extra short inseam in these compare to the regular inseam in the ankle straight jean.

Isn’t the medium tonal wash so interesting?! I saw it and had to give it a try! The front half is a light wash, and the back half is a medium wash. Since I’m partial to a light wash, I liked that the light wash was in the front! I wasn’t totally sold on them, though, so I exchanged them for a new color and size (the 26 was a touch too tight in the waist for me).

As an aside, since my weight has been changing so much over the past couple of years, it was hard to know what sizes to get. I’m also extra sensitive to anything tight around my stomach. 26 was a good first guess and I probably would have kept these back when I was regularly wearing 25/26, but I did exchange some of these jeans due to them likely being uncomfortable to sit in.

Abercrombie Curve Love High Rise Vintage Straight Jean

If you feel like all of these jean styles are very similar, you’re not alone! That’s one reason why I wanted to try all of them—so I could feel what the differences were (if any). The Curve Love High Rise Vintage Straight Jean reminds me a bit more of the jeans that were popular in the 90s (funny, because these aren’t called a “90s” style). These fit more relaxed than the 90s relaxed jeans.

These fit me well in the waist and hips but I felt like the inseam was just a touch too short. I (obviously) love and wear jeans that hit at or above my ankles, but I sometimes wished I had a pair that was longer so I could more easily wear them with heeled boots without the hems getting caught in the top of the boot. So, I exchanged these for the regular inseam.

I will say that I’m still a little bit on the fence about the medium wash. A medium wash is a great year-round wash, but I’m weird about jeans that are really… blue. If that makes sense? 😆 Dark indigo is fine and light wash is fine but medium washes can go either way for me. I don’t know why; it’s always been a weird quirk of mine!

Abercrombie Curve Love Ultra High Rise Ankle Straight Jean

This is the same style as the first pair of jeans I reviewed, just in a different wash. I already own the Curve Love Ultra High Rise Ankle Straight Jean in two washes (dark and black) in size 28 that I purchased 1-2 years ago. With my recent (unintentional) weight loss, those jeans are now too big, so I wanted to reorder them because I love them so much.

If you’re looking to branch out from skinny jeans but aren’t sure what style to try first, I highly recommend this particular style. They are a great, slim straight leg jean that are easy to wear in place of skinny jeans. I also found the regular length inseam to be perfect for me; they hit at my ankle bones.

I thought this was the exact same dark wash that I already own, but…it’s not! Ha. Abercrombie has two “dark” washes in this style, and there are weird vertical lines in this particular dark wash that I’m not a fan of. They also felt just a touch snug around my waist in size 26, so I exchanged them for size 27.

I’m returning this wash but debating if I want to try a different wash in the same size. It just feels a little silly to own the same exact jeans in size 27 and 28 (and the 28s feel way too big now). Maybe it’s not silly?!

After some time resisting wide leg jeans, I actually don’t mind them now and own a few pairs from Madewell. I thought I’d try Abercrombie’s wide leg jeans, but the Curve Love High Rise Cropped Wide Leg Jean did not work out for me. What I liked: The comfort; the jeans were loose and lightweight. I also liked the dark wash, and I did like the inseam even though the regular length wasn’t cropped on me at all.

For me, these jeans were a bit too wide through the legs and didn’t fit me well around the hips (the extra fabric made them look wider). They sometimes looked more like flare jeans (like in the first photo above), which isn’t my style. They were also too big in size 26. I could have gone down at least one size. As of publication, these particular jeans are on sale!

Are Abercrombie Jeans Worth It?

At this under $100 price point, Abercrombie jeans are absolutely worth it in my opinion. They compare to Madewell jeans in comfort and quality but are less expensive, and they often run great sales to bring the price down even more. (I do recommend purchasing as soon as a sale starts for the most size availability!)

I’m someone that prefers stretch to stiffness and lighter-weight denim compared to heavy-weight denim, and I love Abercrombie jeans for all of those reasons. I’m currently wearing my Abercrombie jeans just as frequently if not more frequently than all of my jeans by other brands!

How Do Abercrombie Jeans Fit?

In my experience, Abercrombie jeans fit similarly to Madewell jeans. That said, sometimes sizes vary a little bit across the styles, and I experienced that with this order. I used my first order from a couple of years ago to help me figure out what inseams would work best for me. I also prefer Abercrombie’s Curve Love styles, which basically eliminate the dreaded waist gap that happens with having a larger waist-to-hip ratio.

As with any brand, if you are new to it, I recommend purchasing multiple sizes (including multiple inseams) to find what works best for you and then return the rest. Abercrombie’s return process is super easy. Exchanges are free, and you can return the jeans for free if you have a store near you. If you don’t have a store, $7 is deducted from your return to cover the shipping label. (We sadly lost our store, but it’s still worth the small fee.)

Abercrombie Jeans Size Chart

Measure your waist and hips and then use the size chart below to figure out what size you’d wear in Abercrombie’s Curve Love styles. (The hip sizing is a little bit different if you take their regular “straight” sizes.) As always, I recommend trying on what size you think you are plus one size up and/or one size down (or read reviews to see how the sizing runs for each style you’re interested in, because they’re all different).

The inseam lengths vary between each jean style, too, so be sure to expand the “Size and Fit” section of the style(s) you’re interested in to see the exact inseam lengths. There is a 2” difference between each inseam length.

Here are Abercrombie’s inseam recommendations based on height:

  • Extra Short: under 5’

  • Short: 5’ to 5’3”

  • Regular: 5’4” to 5’7”

  • Long: 5’8” to 5’11”

  • Extra Long: 6’ and above (This is my estimate based on the others since I don’t see a recommendation for this inseam length on the website!)
