How to Style Flatform Sandals for Work
I purchased three new pairs of shoes so far this summer, but you’ve only seen one pair on the blog… until now! (Finally. Still trying to kick the habit of saving my “nice” shoes for more special occasions than just a regular ol’ work day…)
Two of the three pairs were picked up from Nisolo because I had credit to use after returning the beautiful Amalia boots that sadly didn’t work for me. I fell in love with the gorgeous desert rose all-day open toe clogs, and while browsing the site, I was also drawn to the go-to flatform sandal! It took me far longer than I’ll admit to pick which color I wanted in each style, but in the end I went with my original plan and got the flatform sandals in bone. Here’s how I styled them for their first outing!
Nisolo Go-To Flatform Sandals
I only vaguely remember the flatform sandal of yesteryears… I honestly can’t remember if I owned a pair! I’m gonna guess no; I wasn’t big into trends in my younger years, much like I still am now. But it turns out this is a fun trend to take part in as a short person!
Like all Nisolo shoes that I’ve personally seen, the go-to flatform sandals are gorgeous. You can tell immediately upon opening the box (and removing the dust bag—love that touch!) that their shoes are high quality and built to last.
GO-TO FLATFORM SANDAL FEATURES
The Nisolo flatform sandals are packed with features: they feature a memory foam sole (and 1” platform), the sole is grooved for improved traction, the ankle strap is an easy hook and loop with velcro closure, AND the leather is water-resistant. (I didn’t realize that last feature until just now and what!!! Amazing.)
I also just love Nisolo’s mission—they are a Certified B Corporation and follow the highest standards environmentally and socially. All of the factory workers earn a living wage! And the leather they use is certified by the Leather Working Group.
GO-TO FLATFORM SANDAL FIT AND SIZING
Nisolo recommends sizing up a half size, so I ordered a size 7.5 (my typical size is 7). My toes AND heels touch the edge in a size 7.5, so if that would bug you I may suggest going a full size up from your usual. The width around the balls of my feet is fine; the strap over the toes is roomy on me. The strap that goes over the top of my foot, on the other hand, fits much tighter. I had a similar issue with the Amalia boot where it rubbed on the top of my feet. I guess Nisolo doesn’t make shoes for folks with high arches! You might have some rubbing until they break in. The leather is soft but rather stiff.
When I wear them, my heel slides to the inside of the shoe. I don’t know what that means in terms of how I walk or how my feet are or whatever but I thought I would mention it just in case you experience the same thing with other pairs of shoes! I only notice it with these sandals and another pair of flat sandals I own with a similar strap around the heel.
These beautiful sandals come in four colors, and I waited so long to wear mine that two of the colors are now on sale as part of their Semi-Annual Sale: desert rose and sky grey! You can also get 20% off full-price styles if you’d rather go for one of the other colors: bone (pictured here), almond, and black. The sale ends Tuesday, August 31st.
How to Style Flatform Sandals for Work
I know it’s a little late in the season for sandals, but for places like Boise, summer usually sticks around into early to mid-September and sometimes even later. So I hope you bare with me and my last few summer outfit posts before we get into (more) fun fall outfits! 😂
This outfit does have the slightest touch of fall—my clay linen top is the best of both worlds: a lovely earthy orange color that’s reminiscent of fall and a beautiful thick linen that’s breathable for the remaining hot summer days. It’s the Suki top by Two Days Off, a Black-owned slow fashion brand you need to check out if you haven’t yet! (Note that they’re on summer break until September.)
I wore the cropped skinny jeans to show off the flatform sandals…and also because I’m a cheugy Millennial that will die wearing this denim silhouette. I originally did not have the baseball cap on, but then I realized it matched the sandals perfectly, creating bookends! I love a good outfit bookend.
I also wore my mask for a few shots because as much as we wish it wasn’t, the pandemic is still raging…and things are even worse here in Idaho than they were last year. Now that I’m back in the office, I wear my mask whenever I’m not at my computer (and even then, if someone comes into my cube, I put it on). I never stopped wearing my mask mostly because I didn’t want to break the habit of wearing it! Now that my office has had two confirmed COVID cases recently, I’m not gonna stop for a long while… (I’ll request a hybrid schedule once I get a laptop.)
